Research: Crustal stress, Reservoir geomechanics, Subsurface engineering, Experimental rock mechanics
I conduct interdisciplinary education and research between Earth sciences and geological engineering, on three continents (Asia, Europe, North America, now back to China). I am interested to connect geomechanics fundamentals with geo-engineering applications (e.g., geo-structures, geo-resources and geo-hazards), through the main research theme related to crustal stress and its spatio-temporal variations. I combine laboratory and field observations, physics-based models and data analytics to tackle modern challenges of geomechanics. I am fully committed to excellence in research, teaching, and science communication.

马晓冬，山东大学城市地下空间工程本科，美国威斯康星大学-麦迪逊分校地质工程博士，斯坦福大学地球物理系博士后。 受国家海外高层次人才项目支持，2022年11月归国入职中国科学技术大学。归国前为瑞士苏黎世联邦理工学院 (ETH Zürich) 地球科学系讲师， 瑞士能源研究中心高级研究员，Bedretto深部地下实验室地质力学负责人。主要开展地球物理与地下工程交叉融合方面的研究， 面向基础地质力学问题与相关的重大工程应用（地质资源开发、地质灾害防治和地下结构建养）。 主要研究方向为地壳应力、储层地质力学、诱发地震与实验岩石物理。 研究方法基于跨学科、多尺度的地质力学理论体系，综合现场与室内观测、理论模拟和人工智能手段。 2025年自然资源部高层次科技创新人才工程入选者，美国岩石力学学会(ARMA)终身会员，2018年未来领袖入选者，2020年获ARMA杰出贡献奖（首届）。 现担任国际岩石力学期刊Rock Mechanics Bulletin (RMB) 创刊副主编，Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (RMRE) 编委， 地质力学学报编委，国际岩石力学协会(ISRM) 地壳应力与地震专委会委员，中国岩石力学与工程学会国际事务副秘书长，中国地球物理学会岩石物理专委会委员。 主持和参与国家科技重大专项、国家重点研发项目、国家自然科学基金、瑞士自然科学基金(SNSF)、瑞士教育部、欧盟科研基金(Horizon2020)以及工业界合作等项目。
