Ankush Singh, Reservoir and Completions Technical Team Lead at ResFrac Corp, gave an academic talk titled ‘How do hydraulic fractures drain? Insights from integrated studies’ at our group meeting.
Our paper titled 'Continuous spatial stress variations within a granitic rock mass: revealed by cross-sectional ellipticity of an array of boreholes' has been published on International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences (IJRMMS). The paper is led by PhD student Wang Guangyu and through collaborations with the BedrettoLab team of ETH Zürich. Link

Our paper titled ‘Kilometer-scale crustal stress inverted through diverse natural fractures – synthetic tests and real borehole applications’ has been published in Rock Mechanics Bulletin (RMB). Our PhD student Ahmed Ismail from Egypt recently has two papers accepted, each targeting a case study of the Egyptian reservoirs. ‘3D static reservoir modelling of the CO2 Paleozoic Shiffah Formation in PTAH Oil Field, Western Desert (Egypt): Implications for subsurface CO2 storage’ is published on Journal of African Earth Sciences. 课题组蒋水斌、熊思捷两位同学顺利完成硕士毕业答辩。蒋水斌的毕业论文题为“基于微观摩擦机制的三维裂隙岩体等效模型的构建与应用”，熊思捷的毕业论文题为“基于水压致裂法与截面椭圆度分析的浅部钻孔应力场探究”。
PhD student Wang Haonan attended EGU2026 in Vienna, Austria. He presented two talks at EGU: ‘Novel crustal stress profiling based on the criticality of natural fractures – a KTB example’ in session TS8.2 and ‘Assessing induced seismicity risk for the Lower Yarlung Tsangpo hydropower complex’ in session ERE 5.1. He subsequently visited GFZ Germany, meeting with the colleagues of Section 4.2: Geomechanics and Scientific Drilling with many fruitful discussions.
Prof. Yusuke Mukuhira from Tohoku University, Japan visited USTC and gave a departmental talk titled ‘Integration of crustal stress information to seismology and what we can learn especially for induced seismicity’, and also gave a guest lecture titled ‘Geothermal development and its next generation’ at the Geomechanics course. 王光宇、王浩男和熊思捷赴荆州长江大学参加第2届非常规储层岩石物理及测井技术创新长江国际论坛暨第6届SPWLA-SW学术年会。其中王光宇作了题为“Breakout-picker基于声成像测井的崩落智能表征方法”的学术报告，王浩男作了题为“利用测井数据中天然裂隙特性直接反演地壳应力——以深部科学钻探为例”的学术报告。
由王光宇、赵可鉴、刘锦川、张振豪、何欣翰5名同学组成的“成像测井智能分析软件”项目团队，经项目申报、资格审查、尽职调查及评审会投票等环节，最终成功获得中国科学技术大学“雏鹰基金”创意类项目资助。 Link
Dr. Wang Lei from the GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences in Germany visited the group and gave a talk titled ‘Premonitory Slip, Rupture Propagation and Frictional Sliding on Laboratory Rock Faults/Fractures: Effects of Loading Rate and Confining Pressure’ at our group meeting.

Prof. Wei Wu from School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore visited USTC and gave a departmental seminar talk titled ‘Application of seismic scattering in urban underground anomaly detection’.
Prof. Ma Xiaodong traveled to South Africa to visit University of the Witwatersrand Johannesburg and attended a workshop of the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP). The workshop named ICDP-PROTEA aims at ‘Probing the heart of an earthquake and life in the deep subsurface’. Link
Dr. Li Xun visited and gave an academic talk. Dr. Li is currently a postdoctoral researcher from the University of Edinburgh. He gave a departmental academic talk titled ‘Immersive wave experimentation: Cloaking, holography and cloning’. Link

第十届青年地学论坛在合肥召开，课题组两名同学参会。王光宇博士在专题3.7 复杂地质环境下地应力研究新理论部分作了题为“利用钻孔横截面椭圆度刻画岩体地应力连续变化”的学术报告、蒋水斌硕士在专题3.18 岩土体多场多尺度灾变机理与防控部分作了题为“一种新的基于显式微观裂隙变形的三维岩石强度准则”的学术报告。
第二届深空探测国际会议在合肥召开。重庆大学庄丽教授、香港理工大学深空探测研究中心赵奇教授和武汉大学唐旭海教授参会，并来访中国科学技术大学作了精彩的学术报告“裂隙花岗岩的热剪切特性研究”、“深空探测中的地质力学问题”、“基于陨石实验和生成式 AI 的火星风化层力学特性探索”。
PhD student Guangyu Wang traveled to Switzerland to attend the 4th Schatzalp Induced Seismicity Workshop and gave a poster presentation titled ‘In-situ Stress Distribution within a Fractured Rock Mass: Revealed by Cross-sectional Ellipticity of an Array of Boreholes’. He was supported by a scholarship from the Swiss Seismological Service (awarded to only four recipients worldwide).
Prof. Mark Zoback from Stanford University and Prof. Ma Xiaodong visited the Institute of Geomechanics, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and the Institute of Engineering PetroChina.

The Induced Seismicity Workshop and International Workshop on Frontier Research and Future Challenges in Geophysics was held at USTC. Two PhD students presented posters: Guangyu Wang present a poster titled ‘In situ stress variations of an induced seismicity testbed’ and Haonan Wang presented a poster titled ‘Novel crustal stress profiling via super-deep scientific boreholes’.
Prof. Mark Zoback from Stanford University visited USTC and gave an academic talk titled ‘New Business Opportunities in a Decarbonizing Energy World’.
Kai Bröker successfully defended his doctoral dissertation. His PhD thesis is titled ‘From stress field heterogeneity to hydraulic stimulation mechanisms: Insights from a hectometer-scale fractured rock mass’.

Prof. Ma Xiaodong visited the previous drilling site of CCSD (China Continental Scientific Drilling Project) in Donghai, Jiangsu Province, which is now converted into a national observation and research station. He gave a talk titled ‘Probing deep crustal stress state using deep scientific borehole data’.
